Demonstrate the capability of a dumpster lid to support a 120 pound, 16” diameter weight for 24 hours.
A lid was mounted to a simulated dumpster frame, using a ½” diameter hinge pin. The simulated dumpster frame supports the lid on three sides (at the hinge pin, along one side perpendicular to the hinge pin, and on the side opposite from the hinge pin). The fourth side is unsupported (as on a two-lid dumpster). A 16” diameter plywood disc was placed at the center of the lid and then 120 pounds of cast iron weights were placed on the disc.
The weight was allowed to remain on the lid for 24 hours at ambient temperature (approximately 70° F). At the completion of the test, the lid was inspected for evidence of damage (e.g. collapse, excessive sagging, cracks, tears, etc.)
